There was a lot of disagreement between police, police ministry and Provincial Head for KZN about PKTT, but it did not raise alarm bells for IDAC at the time.

The witness is an experienced drug investigator with more than 10 years doing buy and bust covert operations in KZN, but had never attended a drug interception of this magnitude from start to finish before.

I have been doing drug investigation for more than 10 years, doing buy and bust covert operations in KZN, but I have never attended a drug interception of this magnitude from start to finish, either at the harbour or container depot.”

Lieutenant General Khan had a conversation with a Crime Intelligence officer from KwaZulu-Natal, referenced in a media article about Crime Intelligence.

In the 1990s, Superintendent Piet Meyer, Head of Organised Crime in KwaZulu-Natal, was sentenced to 10 years for colluding with drug traffickers.

Mr Nku explained the truck did not stop at weighbridges and he only got details of the truck later that day after it had departed from KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

“The reason why I say that it had crossed through these weighbridges is because the truck details themselves , I got them late on the day . It had departed .”

Phone records show that Tumelo Nku was making calls connected to a tower in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on 2021-07-09, confirming his location in KZN at that time.

The three Section Heads were stationed at the provincial office, the head office of the Hawks in KZN, when General Senona was appointed Provincial Head.

People implicated in organized crime have been identified and linked through cellphone communications, but investigations have stopped or not progressed.

A decision was taken in 2017 not to store exhibits at all five DPCI units in KwaZulu-Natal. Brigadier Nyuswa was aware of this decision.

“In fact, there was a decision taken in 017 not to store exhibits at all of the five DPCI units in KZN. Brigadier Nyuswa was and is well aware of that decision.”

Sazi had an older brother who was not the breadwinner as he was unemployed, so the speaker fulfilled that role.

JMPD members are authorized and supported by the City to testify in other provinces and are paid for accommodation and expenses related to arrests made outside their usual jurisdiction.

General Sibiya expressed concern over a prolonged lack of good relations with General Nhlanhla Mkhwanzi in KZN, a situation known to Minister Cele who failed to resolve it before retirement, and that the National Commissioner also attempted unsuccessfully to intervene.

“General Sibiya called me to tell me that I must come see him in his office ... He told me that he is worried that he and General Mkhwanazi are not getting along, and this has been happening for a long time, and even Minister Cele knew about it, and he did nothing to solve the problem until he went on pension. He further told me that the National Commissioner tried to solve it, but with no luck.”

The taxi industry regularly has meetings with the road and transport policing general and sometimes with the Minister and provincial Commissioner to resolve issues together in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

“I did not know that there was another team that was investigating Mr Matlala parallel. The people who were there is special task force. And most of them is from KZN. I do not know anyone from KZN except General Mkhwanazi.”

Lieutenant-General Shibiri reports that Sergeant Nkosi mentioned an extortion case and a botched drug investigation in KZN linked to Zee Nxumalo.

“So, it is true if it is from him. It is those extortion cases. ... Yes, and some botched drug investigation at KZN.”

There is concern that the General, who heads organized crime in the country, is fearful to mention certain names of people within organized crime and the DPCI/Hawks, which is concerning for the fight against organized crime.

“It is quite concerning that people who head organized crime should be so fearful of people who are alleged to be or are said to be within the organized crime”

Lt-General Shibiri explained he checked on Sergeant Nkosi during a police day event in Durban because he was worried about his safety riding a bike alone.

“we went to police day in KZN, in Durban. He came with a bike. I was flying. When I arrived, I phoned the whole night, he is not answering. So I was worried and he is driving alone, so hence I was so worried”
