Tumelo Nku is not an informer and was working with law enforcement contacts who assisted him with illegal activities, including retrieving illegal drugs from a truck.

“Tumelo Nku is not an informer as he alleges because if that was the case, the drug-seizing was supposed to be seized in Durban. Why would he risk travelling all the way to Durban and come back following the truck? Tumelo was working for and had contacts within law enforcement who were assisting him with illegal activities. Samuel Mashaba, the law enforcement officer within the Gauteng Traffic Department, had connections with other units that he used to assist Tumelo to achieve his objective, which was to retrieve illegal drugs from the truck.”

On 9 July 2021, Sergeant Mogobo called for urgent assistance at the Scania warehouse in Aeroton where several police officers from Crime Intelligence, DPCI and Gauteng Traffic Department were trying to remove the contents of a container suspected of containing drugs.

“On 9 July 2021, at about 09:50, I received a telephone call from Sergeant Mogobo of Gauteng Highway Patrol. He informed me that he was at the Scania warehouse in Aeroton and that there were several police men who claimed to be from Crime Intelligence, DPCI and Gauteng Traffic Department who were trying to remove the contents of a container that he suspected to contain drugs and was supposed to be delivered to the Scania warehouse.”

There were people from Gauteng Traffic Department trying to remove contents of a container suspected to contain drugs, intention to remove those drugs together with Chief Mashaba.

“there were people from Gauteng Traffic Department who were trying to remove the contents of a container that he suspected to contain drugs. That is true because Warrant Officer Magane testified before the Commission that that was their intention to remove those drugs together with Chief Mashaba.”

Deputy Chief Inspector Gerald Maseko from Gauteng Traffic deployed EMPD truck hijacking task team members for the operation in Johannesburg.

“We tasked members of truck hijacking task team to join the other teams as per the request of Deputy Chief Inspector Gerald Maseko, late who was working at province.”
