Mr Cat Matlala

Mrs. Shongwe was hijacked and kidnapped by two people while visiting one of her pastors, and the police classified the case as kidnapping and hijacking but she did not report it at the time to pursue her work and questioning of Cat Matlala.

“When his daughter was opening the gate, I got hijacked and my car, I was taken into the car at the back, and we drove off with those two people, with the daughter as well. Fast forward, the case is opened. The case is opened as kidnapping and hijacking. Now, I asked the police, why do you specify it like that? I did not report it. I went to work, I went to the police station. After I was done...”

Mrs. Shongwe wished to question Cat Matlala about suspicions regarding drugs being stored at Pretoria West College rather than being transported to a lab as reported, linking it to a syndicate she calls the Indian Cabal, allegedly connected with General Khan and Cat Matlala.

“I wanted to ask him is this the reason he got residence for his business in Pretoria West, so that these drugs, if they were brought to Pretoria West, nobody will think the drugs of Cat Matlala are in the police college. If the drugs were in college, that means the syndicate, which I call the Indian Cabal, which I am still checking the IDAC people, Khan would have been able to work with Cat Matlala to get the drugs stored in the police...”

Mrs. Hongwe P states that she was never asked about the matter related to Cat Matlala and drugs during the Ad Hoc Committee discussions, and she saw the incident on TV before informing her family.

“even that matter , I was never asked ... I saw it on the news on Friday , then I informed my family . But in the Ad Hoc , we have never spoken about this”

Mrs. Hongwe P confirms that no further enquiries were made from the Ad Hoc Committee's side regarding the matter involving Cat Matlala and drugs.

“that whole story that you just gave us now about Cat Matlala and the drugs and so on , is a way of you saying that there were no further enquiries .”

The witness was sent by Sthembiso Msibi, son of Jotham Msibi, to collect a jet ski from Mr Cat Matlala in Limpopo, who claimed it belonged to his late father Mr Mswazi; a week later Mr Matlala asked about a card and driver's license left in the jet ski's dashboard, which the witness had taken away but could not answer immediately due to busyness.

“I was asked by Sthembiso Msibi, the son of Jotham Msibi, to go and collect the jet ski ... from Mr Cat Matlala ... somewhere in Limpopo as he said jet ski belong to his late father Mr Mswazi ... he phoned me telling me he is looking for the card and the driver's licence that he left in the dash of the jet ski.”

Later the same week, Mr Matlala urgently needed a black card found in the jet ski and promised to meet Deputy President Paul Mashatile and then General Sibiya; the witness took pictures of the card and sent it to Mr Matlala's phone.

“He needs a card urgent as he was going to meet with the Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, then he met General Sibiya after that ... I took pictures of the said card ... I sent it to his phone.”

General Sibiya asked Sergeant Nkosi in January 2024 to collect a complainant downstairs in the security area, who was Mr Matlala ('Cat Matlala'), known to Nkosi as a businessman and security industry figure.

“During the month of 2024, around January, while I was in the office of General Sibiya, I was told by him that he wants me to go and collect someone from downstairs in the security area... The said person was the complainant according to him... I found that it was someone I knew, as Mr Cat Matlala... I know Mr Matlala (Cat) as a businessman in the security industry”

Mr Matlala ('Cat') told Sergeant Nkosi to be loyal in his work because he can make things happen for his promotion, and that he had won a hospital tender giving him influence to visit the office frequently.

“Mr Cat sometimes when he is looking for General Sibiya, he would tell me that I must be loyal in my work because he can make things happen for me in terms of getting me promoted to the higher rank... He further told me that he has won a hospital tender, so that would make him come more often to the office to check everything is okay”

Lieutenant General Sibiri was aware of suspects charged with the attempted murder of Tebogo Thobejane and their connection to the Arm and Swart contract killer murders but did not know that the same suspects were a group of five or linked to other murders at the time he spoke to investigators in May 2024.

“The attempted murder, I know ... Those who were arrested on the Arm and Swart ... They are linked ... Yes ... You know about the suspects ... charged on the Thobejane one ... You did not have any knowledge of connection of those contract killers ... in May 2024 ... I knew the connection of what? ... No ... I did not know ... No, I did not know.”
