Deputy Director Dumisani Pompi

Deputy Director Dumisani Pompi stated that Chief Mashaba did not inform him about the activity he was performing at the time of his arrest and that Mashaba acted without his boss knowing.

“He calls him Acting Deputy Provincial Inspector Mashaba : 39; o n duty of the activity he was performing at the time of his arrest and he did not even inform me about it . 39; So, that is what his superior says. So, Mashaba went and did his own thing without his boss knowing .”

Deputy Director Dumisani Pompi says Chief Mashaba kept communicating with him as his supervisor regarding his duties and Mashaba called Pompi for a meeting but then Mashaba was arrested by the Hawks related to an undercover drug operation.

“His supervisor, Dumisani Pompi filed a statement at the time and said that, and I will just pick parts of it that make the point, he says : “ Chief Mashaba, in all his work engagements, he keeps communicating with me as his supervisor with regards to his duties . 39; Right ? That is the one thing he says . And then he says that morning he called Mashaba for a meeting and Mashaba said he is busy . And then at about 11 : 26 he heard from Deputy Director that Chief Mashaba has been arrested by the Hawks .”

Deputy Director Dumisani Pompi says he was told Mashaba could not tell him about the undercover drug operation and Mashaba's superior indicated that SAPS responsible for the operation will discuss misunderstandings with the Intelligence General Khan.

“He then told me and then he called him and then he told me he could not tell me that they had an undercover operation of drugs . This is Mashaba now . He finds him on the phone . After now he is arrested . That the operation was successful but they are just having a misunderstanding with other members of Crime Intelligence . The indication from him was that they are fine and they will handle the situation . This is Mashaba to his superior . And then this is what the superior says in the statement : “ for me this denote(d) that the responsible person for SAPS that approved this operation will discuss the misunderstanding with the General from Intelligence . ” This was a reference to General Khan, a telephone call from General Khan .”
