Vereeniging

Mashaba was based in Sedibeng, Vereeniging, and Joseph Magane was at CIMAC, Crime Information Analysis Centre in Sonkizizwe - their involvement in a drug bust in Johannesburg appears incongruous given their official roles.

“Director Mashaba ... he is based in Sedibeng, in Vereeniging... In the case of Magane, it says he is in the CIMAC, Crime Information Analysis Centre, in Sonkizizwe... If you are a traffic director in Vereeniging or you are a crime analyst in Sonkizizwe, what are you doing in a drug bust? Because those two jobs have nothing to do at all with being involved in a drug bust”

The affidavit states Mashaba is employed as Chief at Gauteng Traffic Police in Sedibeng Vereeniging district.

“I am employed as Chief at Gauteng Traffic Police , Sedibeng in Vereeniging .”

Traffic Officer in Vereeniging was leading a drug bust operation chasing a truck from Sedibeng to Johannesburg, which is questioned as not in his job scope.

“here is a Traffic Officer in Vereeniging who is leading , because he is the leader ... conducting a drug bust . They are chasing it in Ekurhuleni , outside of Sedibeng . They are chasing it all the way to Johannesburg , outside of Sedibeng”

Between 2018 and 2022 Brigadier Nkwashu was appointed District Commissioner temporarily and from 2022 he was transferred to Vereeniging as Deputy District Commissioner where he is currently serving.

“between 2018 and 2022, wherein between I was appointed...to be District Commissioner a few occasions. From 2022, I was then transferred to Vereeniging...and appointed as Deputy District Commissioner and, which is where I am currently serving.”

Brigadier Nkhwashu says his car was new and had a temporary permit, not formal registration plates, issued by Omar's Motors dealership in Meyerton, Vereeniging.

“The truth is that my car was new at the time and had not yet been issued with a formal registration plate. It was fitted with a temporary permit... issued from the dealership where I bought this particular vehicle, which is Omar's Motors, Meyerton, Vereeniging”

Although the docket has been transferred to the Organised Crime Unit, it still remains the responsibility (docket) of Brigadier Nkhwashu's station (Vereeniging), allowing him certain system access and accountability.

“the docket... remains the station of origin... the accountability of the commanders in Vereeniging... it remains your docket”

Sergeant Nkosi received information from Warrant Officer Zungu that suspects involved in a murder in Vereeniging were known to Mr Mthakathi.

“they are on their way to the scene of crime where one white African male was murdered. And it is alleged that the people who committed that particular murder, they are known to Mr Mthakathi.”

Sergeant Nkosi phoned Mr Mthakathi to inform him about suspects known to him being arrested in relation to the murder in Vereeniging, but Mr Mthakathi did not initially provide names.

“I phone Mr Mthakathi and informed him that I heard that there are people that you know that have committed murder in Vereeniging. Then Mr Mthakathi said to me, who are those people that committed? I then went back to Warrant Officer Zungu... They did not give me a name”
