In 2020, Chief Mashaba was appointed Acting Deputy Director for Sedibeng District, Southern Corridor, a district role not provincial.
“I was appointed as an Acting Deputy Director, Sedibeng District, Southern Corridor. That is very specific. You are not in a provincial role then.”
Chief Mashaba acknowledges Sedibeng District is not the whole Gauteng province but just a municipality, while his jurisdiction is Gauteng.
“Yes, it is not a province. It is a municipality.”
Chief Mashaba's daily Deputy Director responsibilities included visiting three offices and addressing complaints, challenges, resource and conflict management, and non-performance issues.
“My role was to address complaints, address challenges, be it resources, be it conflicts among the members, be it non-performance from managers. Those were my responsibilities there.”
Chief Samuel Tsiane Mashaba joined Gauteng Traffic as a trainee in 2003, was seconded to the Premier's Office as Acting Supervisor in 2006, promoted to Chief Provincial Inspector in 2013, politically and forcefully removed in 2018, was arrested and detained at Johannesburg Central with three colleagues, was suspended, reinstated and transferred, then appointed Acting Deputy Director in 2020 at Sedibeng District, Southern Corridor.

Upon my reinstatement, I was transferred to Vereeniging regional office ... In 2020, I was appointed as the Acting Deputy Director, Sedibeng district”
Between 2018 and 2022 Brigadier Nkwashu was appointed District Commissioner temporarily and from 2022 he was transferred to Vereeniging as Deputy District Commissioner where he is currently serving.
