Advocate Sello cites that TSS is a very secretive operations unit within SAPS whose operations are unknown to most members and that it would have been reasonable for Accused to choose Major Generals from Crime Intelligence to reduce compromising the secrecy of TSS.

“TS S is a very secretive operations unit. TSS working on operations methodology practice and capability unknown to the majority of members of SAPS. It would have been reasonable to expect Accused to have chosen Major Generals from CI to reduce compromising TSS and its operations.”

Captain Duma initially informed them at Isipingo that there were alleged to be 27 pieces of cocaine in a container, and information from CI indicated a container containing approximately 7 kilos of cocaine was kept there.

“We met with Captain Duma in the Isipingo area. He informed us that there were alleged to be 27 pieces of Cocaine in a container number ... ... entry is made by Warrant Officer Mpangase, he lists information received from CI was that a container containing plus minus 7 kilos of the drug Cocaine was kept at Isipingo ...”

Lt-Col Duma stated there is no hidden agenda in the way trust and information sharing happen in drug operations and that this is a common practice within their unit and with other members from the Crime Intelligence (CI) branch.

“There is no hidden agenda about that which made me request ... It happens with, for example, in most operations that have been conducted and involves drugs ... Detective from DPCI ... worked closely with someone from CI”

The speaker informed investigators about critical information needing verification but was not responsible for verifying the info themselves.

“I informed them that there is this information which needed to be verified. Did they verify with CI and everybody?... I was not responsible for going and checking those dockets and so forth.”
