Exhibit Clerk

Exhibit clerk from Port Shepstone arrived with SAP 13 register per arrangement, the clerk was a white person.

“there was an arrangement containing SAP 13 register, where the exhibit clerk from Port Shepstone arrived. He was a white person .”

Warrant Officer Mpangase said an exhibit clerk suggested booking the exhibits out from DPCI for analysis because the exhibits were kept at DPCI.

“he said or suggested that since we keep them in , since we keep them in that DPCI , then he said we must book them out”

Colonel Jacob confirmed he arrived at Isipingo police station, went inside to find the Exhibit Clerk, and while he was inside members started offloading the exhibits resulting in loss of sight of unbagged exhibits.

“You arrived at Isipingo police station. You went into the police station to find the Exhibit Clerk. In your statement, you also say that when you got there, the members started offloading while you went into find the Exhibit Clerk, right? Yes. So there is a window where you lost sight of these exhibits that are not bagged.”

Phones left at a scene are generally destroyed rather than returned or auctioned due to sensitive information; Exhibit Clerk is authorized to destroy such phones.

“If I have a suspect that has left a phone at a scene and the matter is finalised, a cell phone is now destroyed. So you authorise the Exhibit Clerk to have that phone destroyed. How they do it, they squash it, they break it, or they send it to a scrapyard, I do not know. But there is an authorisation that is done to destroy that exhibit.”
