Megafreight

Colonel Jacob stated the container seal was broken on 22 June 2021 and resealed by warehouse staff to ensure it was locked before handing over to clearing agent Megafreight, with no further police interaction thereafter.

“When we did conduct the operation on the 22nd of June 2021, the original seal was broken, a new seal was put in place ... On the 1st of July, upon coming back to do an unpack of that container ... the container itself ... was handed over to the clearing agent from Megafreight.”

COLONEL JACOB met with the warehouse manager and affirms that Tim Floweday from Megafreight was present for the unpack on 1 July 2021 or 2022.

“if I wrote that the representative Tim Floweday, from Megafreight was here, this was the unpack that was done”

ADV SELLO SC reads from a statement dated 6 October 2025 describing that members of Hawks and a Megafreight official visited on 1 July 2021 to verify the packing list of the container.

“Members of Hawks arrived. An official from Megafreight was present. They indicated they wanted to verify the packing list. When the members had finished, the container was locked and another was placed on the container. ... I really cannot remember the Hawks members' names who came to our company on the 1st of July 2021 to verify that the packing list corresponded with the contents of the container.”

Colonel Jacob took over the investigation on return from work on 1 July 2021 and went to the CHC depot to check the container with Mpangase and Sibiya.

“On my return from work , I took over the investigation . Mpangase made it known that he was leaving .”

Colonel Jacob knew the authorised person for the container was Mr Floweday of Megafreight by 1 July 2021 and obtained a statement from him.

“You knew it was Mr Floweday of Megafreight. - Yes. ... You obtained a statement from Mr Floweday of Megafreight.”

Mr Floweday of Megafreight stated in his 2025 handwritten statement that he was not informed of the container inspection on 22 June 2021 and only received instruction to attend inspection on 23 June 2021.

“He states that he was not informed. ... In this matter, I was not informed of the container inspection on the 22nd of June 021. Only received the instruction to attend inspection on 23rd day of June 2021.”

Megafreight's Floweday's statement says under no circumstances may officials break the container seal without the presence of the client owner of the shipment and that an inspection report must be completed and the container resealed.

“Under no circumstances the officials will break the container seal without me being present, as I will be representing the client who is the owner of the shipment in the container. After then it is opened and inspected, the container will be resealed with a new seal. I, Floweday, will then prepare the inspection report and invoice the clearing agent.”
