Sergeant Nkosi shared photographs depicting dead bodies and bullet-damaged vehicles with Mr Mampane as a warning about the danger in the area and to caution against sending people to run a project there.

“The reason that I have shared these things with Mampane ... I was warning him, can you see how people have been killed there? You must be careful before you send in your people to run a project there.”

Sergeant Nkosi cannot clearly recall where he got the photographs from or who sent them to him.

“I cannot remember clearly, Commissioner, where did I find them, but it was somewhere in Brits. I do not know who sent it to me at that time.”

Lieutenant-General Shibiri confirmed the existence of a group of five persons involved in mining interests in Rustenburg and Brits, with links to taxi operations and ownership of a fleet of taxis.

Advocate Khumalo SC reported that the person arrested, Mr Molefe, was a business partner with a group of people involved in mining interests in Brits and Rustenburg, and they were sharing information to assist ongoing investigations.
