Brooklyn Police Station

Lieutenant General Khumalo was arrested after landing at Oliver Reginald Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) while his co-accused had been invited to report to Brooklyn Police Station.

“Lieutenant General Khumalo was arrested after he had landed at Oliver Reginald Tambo International Airport, ORTIA. I do not recall where he was travelling from. I was informed that at the time his co-accused had already been invited to report to Brooklyn police station.”

IDAC investigators went to ORTIA to inform Lieutenant General Khumalo of an arrest warrant and to have him hand himself over before accompanying them to Brooklyn Police Station.

“They went to ORTIA to inform him that there is a warrant for his arrest, for him to hand himself over, and he then accompanied them to the Brooklyn police station.”

Advocate Johnson accepted the assertion that investigators went to the airport specifically to arrest Lieutenant General Khumalo, leaving him with no option but to go directly to Brooklyn Police Station.

“I am accepting your point.”

There is confusion about why a docket was registered with SAPS on 6 January 2025 during preliminary investigation, with the docket number showing registration in June 2025.

“Why is IDAC at Brooklyn Police Station opening a case in January 2025?”

Lieutenant General Khumalo was arrested at Oliver Reginald Tambo International Airport, with his co-accused already invited to report to Brooklyn Police Station at the time of his arrest.

“Lieutenant General Khumalo was arrested after he had landed at the Oliver Reginald Tambo International Airport, OR TIA. I do not recall where he was travelling from. I was informed that, at the time, his co-accused had already been invited to report to the Brooklyn Police Station.”

Lieutenant General Khumalo cooperated with investigators at ORTIA and was taken to Brooklyn Police Station without incident, accompanied by his security detail and treated respectfully.

“Upon finding him at OR TIA, the two investigators explained who they were, why they were there, why he was sought, and what his rights were. They then asked Lieutenant General S D Khumalo to accompany them to Brooklyn Police Station in Pretoria. He cooperated and was taken there. There was nothing dramatic about it. At all times during his arrest, Lieutenant General Khumalo's security detail was with him. He was not threatened and was accorded all the respect that could be accorded a person of his profile. On the way from OR TIA to Brooklyn Police Station, the investigators had occasion to stop and get something to drink from a filling station at the request of Lieutenant General Khumalo for himself.”

IDAC dockets are normal police dockets, registered at the relevant police station (Brooklyn Police Station) but the section 27 complaint itself is managed separately before docket registration.

“It is registered at Brooklyn police station . IDAC does not have access to their own systems of registering dockets . So , it is registered at the police station ... It is a normal police docket .”

There is an issue with a statement attributed to an investigator, with conflicting dates and signatures, raising questions about its authenticity, in particular whether the statement was taken properly in presence of Mr Adams and where it was taken (Cape Town or Pretoria).
