Colonel Maluleka from DPCI National confirmed to General Khan that he was in charge as Warrant Officer Phakula was handling the scene, but this was ignored.

Lieutenant Colonel Jacob encountered a problem when the Isipingo police station would not allow the exhibit to be stored, and after exhausting all avenues, Brigadier Nyuswa contacted the Forensic Science Laboratory to find storage space.

“Lieutenant Colonel Jacob called me and told me the team encountered a problem at Isipingo who would not allow the exhibit to be stored at Isipingo police station . He also told me that he had exhausted all avenues. I told him I will try to find spaces somewhere, and I will call him back. I contacted Brigadier Maluleka and Colonel Khuzwayo of the Forensic Science Laboratory... I asked her if FSL had the space to store the exhibit, and she said they did not.”

The speaker and others were arrested by a DPCI Hawks team led by Brigadier Sekgobela and other senior officers, detained harshly in Booysen until July 12, 2021, and denied visits and necessities per instructions from General Kadwa.

“At around half past 1, 13:30, we were arrested by DPCI Hawks team that came last at the crime scene. These were Brigadier Sekgobela, Colonel Steyn, Colonel Maluleka, Captain Sebola, Captain Nortje. They arrested us and took charge of the scene... After the arrest, we were taken to Booysen Police Station for detention and was detained at around 19:30 until Monday the 12th July 2021... We were treated very bad during detention in the cells and we were told as per General Kadwa's instructions that we are not allowed to be visited, where the toilet was not even working and nothing was allowed from our families outside, food, toiletries and water.”

Major General Khan disarmed Chief Mashaba and Lieutenant Colonel Maluleka saw a whimpering driver under arrest walking away from the crime scene.

Warrant Officer Phakula never discussed what was going to happen with the exhibits in the back of the bakkie while at Aeroton because they were still waiting for Lieutenant Colonel Maluleka.
