Maj-Gen Senona was not aware of facilities in and around the area including Maydon Wharf Police Station, Umbilo, and others for storing drugs before shipment.

According to Colonel Jacob, Maydon Wharf police station has its own exhibits to attend to, similar to Isipingo police station; securing appropriate storage space is difficult because stations do not want to give up SAP13 exhibit room space.
“Maydon Wharf has their own exhibits to see , to attend to ... those stations know that the lab takes a long while to house those exhibits ... but no station wants to give away the SAP13 space”
Colonel Jacob highlights that police stations like Maydon Wharf receive bulk exhibits seized at the harbour but he did not engage with them due to past experiences where they would call him to remove exhibits, showing reluctance to request storage space.
“stations like Maydon Wharf , which is close to our harbour, ... I know that they are going to need that storage place , then they are going to call me to take away my exhibits from there ... past experience has taught me certain stations will assist, others will not”
Durban Harbour Police have jurisdiction over the CHC Depot and exhibits seized within their area must be handed to Maydon Wharf Police Station.

Colonel Jacob states that despite the SOP, police stations like Maydon Wharf do not accept exhibits seized outside their precinct, such as Isipingo or Umbilo exhibits.
“we have never ever stored exhibits from Isipingo at Maydon Wharf for Umbilo ... Police jurisdictions are police jurisdictions ...”
Warrant Officer Sander keeps a store of various sizes of exhibit bags at their office, including large black skips used for bulky exhibits, and sometimes obtains additional bags from other police stations when required.
“Those came from our own office...We have got lots. We have a storeroom on our third floor. It is packed... there have been scenes where there were possibly bags that did not fit or some of these things we get from government tender, they do not work. So, the seals do not seal. So, I would be able to make the necessary phone calls... we are going to take all their stock and we just bring it to our scene and we work from there.”
The cocaine drugs were seized and taken to Maydon Wharf Police Station; Border Policing visited the company and placed a detention order on the container before the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) arrived.
