Dina Govender

The tracing team, composed of TRT and DPCI members and commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Dina Govender, arrived at the office around quarter past 4 with several vehicles including three Combi vans and a BMW sedan driven by Govender.

“Still on the day, quarter past 4, the members arrived at the office, several vehicles. They arrived at the same time as Major General Senona and Brigadier Nyuswa... other members arrived in three Combis and a BMW sedan which was driven by Lieutenant Colonel Dina Govender. The tracing team is a team composed of TRT members and DPCI members... Members of the team included Lieutenant Colonel Dina Govender, who was their commander.”

Lieutenant Colonel Dina Govender was the only member who drove inside and parked in front of the three Combis inside the driveway; the gate was kept open during the offloading of exhibits.

“Lieutenant Colonel Dina Govender drove in, so he was parked in front of these Combis... Inside of the driveway, yes... When the exhibits were being offloaded, was the gate closed? No, it was not closed. It was open.”

The coffee shop where Colonel Dina Govender went to buy coffee was just around the corner from the office, approximately 250 metres away, and not visible from the office.

“It is just around the corner. It cannot be seen there. It is just around the corner. It is 250 metres from the office.”

Lt-Col Prinsloo testified the members were not informed of any plan for the exhibits, contrary to National Instruction and protocol requiring immediate transfer to Forensic Science Laboratory within 7 days.

“Present at the office at this time is Major General Senona, Brigadier Nyuswa, Lieutenant-Colonel Dina Govender, Warrant Officer Mpangase, and the other members of the Provincial Tracing Team, and Warrant Officer Van Den Berg and myself. We were not informed of any plan about the exhibits. I say that because the National Instruction and the protocol required that the exhibits be immediately sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory. In exceptional circumstances, no later than 7 working days, we were kept in the dark about how long the exhibits would be kept in our office.”

Lieutenant Colonel Prinsloo mentions a tracing team composed of TRT and DPCI members with Commander Dina Govender as commander, ordinarily dealing with cash-in-transit cases.

“You said in paragraph 0, you say that the team of people that came included the tracing team, which is composed of TRT members and DPCI members, and then their Commander is Dina Govender.”
