Community Liaison Unit

Commissioner Mkhwanazi denies the allegation by Commissioner Revo Spies that he commanded the Community Liaison Unit (CLU) since 2014/2015, stating he only commanded a public order policing unit focusing strictly on crowd management at that time.

“Commissioner Revo Spies raised the issue that I commanded CLUs since 2014/015, of which I am saying I am denying that that is not true. At that time, I was just the commander of a public order policing unit concentrating strictly on crowd management”

The Community Liaison Unit (CLU) members do not wear uniform but civilian clothes and at the time Commissioner Mkhwanazi commanded only Public Order Unit which wears uniform.

“CLU does not wear uniform. It is members of - they wear their civilian clothes. That time I was only commanding Public Order Unit. The unit that wears uniform daily basis strictly deals with crowd management”
