Mr Riekert

Mr Riekert, a retired SAPS Captain and Security Manager at Scania, states that during the investigation, Chief Mashaba was very aggressive, obstructed others' work, and intimidated by threatening arrest if interference occurred.

“He says: 'Being a retired Captain in the Police, I asked him why they were not following normal investigation protocols. With a very aggressive attitude he told me not to try to do his work and that he would arrest me for interfering in the investigation.'”

Mr Riekert states Chief Mashaba produced a police ID identifying himself as a Warrant Officer but became aggressive when Mr Riekert tried to record information.

“He produced a police ID card identifying himself as a Warrant Officer. When I wanted to write down the information on the card he became very aggressive.”

Mr Riekert reports that when he tried to take photos of the events at Scania, Chief Mashaba and Magane were aggressive towards him and even told police who arrived to go away, claiming it was their scene.

“He says in paragraph 10 that even the police who arrived, you were aggressive towards him and you told them to go away because this was your scene.”

General Khan was given instructions and took over managing the crime scene upon arriving there.

“I was expecting General Khan to indicate that when he arrived at the crime scene, this is what he did at the crime scene. And is sue of him giving instructions because there is a statement of – I do not remember whether it was Mr Riekert, who indicated that when General Khan arrived at the scene, there was an order. He is the one who took over the crime scene and made sure that everything now, it is in, there was an order.”
