Sergeant Nkosi initially stated he found the card on his way back from collecting the jet ski from Mr Matlala's farm, but later changed his version to saying he found it at Hartebeespoort Dam, leading to contradictory evidence about the discovery circumstances of the card.

“I found it on my way back to collect the jet ski ... from Mr Matlala's farm ... you immediately changed your version and then you said, actually I found it at Hartebeespoort Dam ... there are a whole range of issues on which you have given fundamentally contradictory evidence in relation to this card.”

There are two contradictory versions about when the card was found: either in September 2024 or in December 2024.

“did you find the card in September or did you find the card in December? ... On some occasions you have said it was when you were fetching the jet ski which would have been September ... On other occasions you have said it was on the day that you sent the pictures to Mr Matlala ... which we know to be the 23rd of December ... So there are two different versions.”

Sergeant Nkosi admits he found the card in December 2024, but previously gave versions compatible with finding it in September 2024 within a week of returning from Mr Matlala's farm.

“When you found the card was it September or December? ... December ... why then did you twice give a version that could only be consistent with having found the card in September within a week of your return from Mr Matlala's farm ... that is repeated ...”

Sergeant Nkosi disputes that Mr Matlala called him first about the card as stated in his handwritten statement, claiming that it was a follow-up call after Nkosi informed Mr Matlala of finding the card.

“In your handwritten statement you say Mr Matlala phoned me ... But I phoned him first to let him know that I found the card ... That is a second error in this handwritten statement ...”
