General Mkhwanazi covered up the decision and did not disclose the full details and dates of meetings related to the withdrawal of charges when giving evidence.

“He covered it up all the way along ... He kept quiet about the matter ... The information that is missing is the dates of the meeting in respect of the Police Minister. That meeting date has been kept vague ... The thing was kept vague and I am saying it was deliberately kept vague ... I am not happy with keeping it vague.”

General Mkhwanazi kept the date of the meeting with the Police Minister vague despite knowing from March letters and a later June meeting with President Zuma that it occurred between March and June 2012.

“The information that is missing ... is the dates of the meeting in respect of the Police Minister. That meeting date has been kept vague ... But we know that it is March because the letters are the March letters ... and the meeting with President Zuma happens in June. So ... the date is between the two ... That is at least how I read paragraph 48, that the meeting would have happened between those two dates.”
