Colonel Jacob instructed an investigating officer, Warrant Officer Mpangase, to take samples of suspected cocaine for analysis even while he was on leave, which is unusual because normally being on leave means not being active on duty.

“I thought by that time when I am giving him advice on how to take samples, the exhibits would have been entered in Port Shepstone 13, they had been in bags but it was not the case... my instructions was to him to take it to the FSL, not for me.”
