Major Phiri confirms he lent money to Aluwani Makhuba, who is a businessman and employee of Ramalepe Security, a service provider for the City.

Major Phiri says the loan is to the Ramalepe Security business, not to the individual employees, and that he is the one paying them, not the other way around.

“I t i s t h e l o a n – n o , n o , t h e y a r e n o t p a y i n g m e . I a m p a y i n g t h e m . I a m g i v i n g t h e m a l o a n .”

Major Phiri paid money to Ramalepe Security Services, the employer of Mr. Aluwani and his associates, but claims he was not aware he was paying an entity.

“there is no logic in what you are saying, in that you say three people approached you and one, you pay directly to Mr Aluwani, and we will come to that transaction that you made to him. And then you make payments to their employer, being Ramalepe Security... And your answer is simply that when you made that payment, you were not aware that you are paying now into an entity.”

Major Phiri paid Ramalepe Security amounts through his phone app by typing in the account number, without verifying the account name.

“I paid them through my phone and I used the account. I did not even need to verify them, Chair. I paid them on that date and I was sure that they will not do anything.”
