The Chief of Staff position at the brigadier level has been vacant for a very long time, and the structure was changed incorrectly; a new structure proposed restoring it to Deputy Chief level but awaits approval.

“This position has been vacant for a very long time. Previously, I acted in this position officially, but then it was on a Deputy Chief level. The structure was then subsequently changed and put incorrectly on a brigadier level. The new structure that has been developed for the department, proposed structure that still needs to go for approval, it has been put back on a Deputy Chief level, where it should be.”

Commissioner Bolhuis is functioning at Deputy Chief level despite the position being officially on a brigadier level according to approved structure, which is high stress and right-hand to Chief of Police.

“Although the position on the approved structure is on a brigadier level, I am functioning on a Deputy Chief level. It is a high, stressful position, the right-hand person to the Chief of Police, as indicated by some of the functions that I have already mentioned.”
