Lieutenant-General Shibiri denies that the purchase of a suit at Zegna for 53500 was a birthday gift from Mr Matlala, Mr Molefe, or Mr Motsumi.
“No, it was not.”
Lieutenant-General Shibiri states that the deposit for the suit was made by Africa Steel, owned by Mr Chang, who was buying a suit for his son’s wedding in China.
“Commissioner, you can check the deposit is from Africa Steel. Africa Steel is owned by Mr Chang, who happened to be a friend of mine. And then he was the one who was buying a suit. His son was getting married. He was getting to China. So, he was buying a suit at Zegna.”
There is a suspicious transaction in October 2023 involving General Sibiya's bank account with a credit and related purchase which he explains as a suit bought by a friend who transferred money to him.
“...credit to your account of 58820 on the 11th of October 2023... it is a purchase at Zegna for 53538... a friend wanted to buy a suit but they transferred money into your account for you to pay for them.”
