Zama-Zama kingpin

The person involved in the case is taking mining rights from lawful owners and behaving like a Zama-Zama kingpin because the mining plans do not belong to him and he hijacked or took them by force.

“We could label it either way, Commissioner, because the person takes away mining rights from lawful owners and mines on those mines. So the person will be behaving like a Zama-Zama because the plans where he will be mining does not belong to him. He is the one which she hijacked or took by force.”

The arrest Mr Mogotsi referred to about the Zama-Zama kingpin himself was actually made in December-January, separate from other arrests of hitmen.

“The arrest in this instance was of the hitmen and the arrest that Mr Mogotsi was referring to was when the Zama-Zama kingpin himself was actually arrested, and that was in December, January.”
