Inspector General of Intelligence

On 11 June 2021, General Khan sends draft questions for the Inspector General of Intelligence relating to a convicted drug dealer and a close friend.

“On the 11th of June at message time: 51:47 General Khan sends to Mr Sayed draft questions for the Inspector General of Intelligence ... "Convicted drug dealer and member in the agent program ... claims to be close friends with you. Is this true? Do you take instructions from this person ... What gratification does the Inspector..."”

The formulation of the questions to the Inspector General came from Mr Malema.

“The formulation of the question to the Inspector General of Intelligence came from Mr Malema.”

Mr Malema was involved in the formulation and forwarding of questions to the Inspector General of Intelligence about his relationship with Timmy Marimuthu and discussions on crime intelligence matters.

“Mr Sayed then sends a screenshot of his exchanges with Mr Malema, which show that the formulation of the question to the Inspector General of Intelligence came from Mr Malema.”

General Mdluli was suspended and there was a disciplinary matter and criminal case pending against him, with delays in responses from the Inspector General of Intelligence (IGI).

“I informed him that I had written to the IGI and had received a response from her regarding the disciplinary matter against him, but was awaiting her response regarding the criminal case against him ... I telephoned Advocate Hadebe to inform her that I would not be lifting General Mdluli's suspension until she has perused the criminal case docket”

General Mdluli should return to work only after the IGI has examined the criminal case docket.

“I disagreed with the IGI's view that Lieutenant General Mdluli should return to work. She had not yet read the criminal case docket ... I would not be lifting General Mdluli's suspension until she has perused the criminal case docket”
