There were previous investigations before IDAC into the abuse of secret service funds emerging from prosecutions of Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi and later investigations of former Divisional Commissioner Richard Mdluli.

Mr Leask told the witness that Mr Bateman had informed Mr Gerrie Nel of a conversation between Mr Bateman and Advocate Johnson.

“Mr Leask told me that Bateman had informed Mr Gerrie Nel of the conversation between him, Bateman, and Advocate Johnson.”

Mr Leask told the Colonel that Mr Bateman sent a WhatsApp message to Advocate Gerrie Nel following his conversations with Advocate Johnson on 5 September 2022.

“Mr Leask told me that Mr Bateman sent a WhatsApp message to Advocate Gerrie Nel after his conversation with Advocate Johnson on 5 September.”
