Sergeant Nkosi met regularly with Mr Motsumi, including social meetings such as riding bikes and visits to Waterfall Clubhouse, which are not necessarily formal meetings.

On 19 May 2025, Sergeant Nkosi forwarded codes to Sergeant Moraka (K9 unit) and Sergeant Mphela (K9 unit) to arrange a visit or meeting at Mr Motsumi's house, which was stated to be a social meeting at a clubhouse rather than a formal meeting.
“You forward a code to Sergeant Moraka ... and also forward a code to see Mr Motsumi to someone you have saved as Mphela K9 ... We were just meeting, not say meeting, we were just sitting there ... it is a clubhouse”
Sergeant Nkosi and colleagues took an afternoon off to go to Waterfall Clubhouse for lunch/socializing, and Mr Mphela's code allowed entry until that afternoon even though he arrived late.
“You went to the clubhouse on an entry code ... Sergeant Mphela picking you up much later with a code that expired at 5:30 ... you took the afternoon off as it were to go to Waterfall Clubhouse for lunch ...”
