On 23 June 2021, a 24-hour inspection entry was made referencing Warrant Officer Mpangase, including a direction to obtain witness statements, liaise with the DPP's office, bring SARS/Customs on board, and forward samples to the FSR.

“The entry on C 4, page 803, it is dated 23rd of June, 2021, and this is a 24-hour inspection... Obtain witness statement from all relevant role players. Request PCMC to profile all suspects and business entities. I say, liaise with the DPP's office. Enquire that SARS Customs is brought on board... And I made an entry here, forward samples taken to the FSR.”

Colonel Steyn confirms knowledge of similar presentations by the Provincial Crime Management Centre (PCMC) but not this specific WhatsApp message evidence; he did not know how the media obtained the information.

“I know there was analysis done by our PCMC ... but to where this comes from, and I have not seen this prior today . . . I do not know where they have gotten this . . .”
