Sergeant Nkosi affirmatively agreed that a WhatsApp message showed he sent a picture of a card on 23 December 2024 following an urgent call from Mr Matlala, who needed the card urgently to see Deputy President Mashatile and General Sibiya.
“Well, the WhatsApp’s show that you sent this card, a picture of the card, on the 23rd of December 2024.”
Sergeant Nkosi admitted he omitted mentioning in his typed statement to the Commission the urgent call from Mr Matlala about needing the card to meet the Deputy President and General Sibiya.
“It could be a mistake on the statement or when the statement was written that I omitted that.”
Sergeant Nkosi confirmed the handwritten statement includes that Mr Matlala told him he needed the card urgently because he was going to meet the Deputy President.
“Just the statement that Mr Matlala told you he needed the card urgently as he was going to meet the Deputy President.”
Sergeant Nkosi stated that the omission of the urgent need for the card in his typed statement was a mistake or human error and not an attempt to lie or protect the Deputy President.
“Every body can make a mistake in writing and maybe I thought I have written it just by the way I was thinking and I did not put it in.”
Sergeant Nkosi denied protecting the Deputy President by omitting mention of Mr Matlala’s urgent need for the card from his typed statement to the Commission.
“Is it not possible that you were trying to protect the Deputy President by not mentioning it? No.”
Sergeant Nkosi confirmed that the pictures of the card were sent to Mr Matlala on 3 December and that Mr Matlala wanted the card urgently because he was meeting with the Deputy President and General Sibiya.
“He wanted the card urgently because he was going to meet with the Deputy President and then General Sibiya, so you took pictures of the card and sent them to him.”
